An earlier version of ActionAid's website stated:

"More women and children have been killed by the Israeli military in Gaza than any other conflict in the last two decades."

This was based on findings from an Oxfam report. Unfortunately the statement as posted did not include the full reference contained in the report.

The correct wording in the Oxfam report, is:

"More women and children were killed by the Israeli military in Gaza in the year following October 7 than in the equivalent period of any other conflict in the last two decades."

As soon as we became aware of the inaccuracy the statement was immediately removed.

We apologise for the inadvertent error in the original post on our website. We are committed to ensuring all our public statements are accurate and based on credible sources. We will continue to review our content regularly to maintain transparency and uphold public trust.

After the page was corrected, we were contacted by an organisation to inform us of the inaccuracy which has now appeared in various media outlets. We note that the organisation who raised this inaccuracy did so without first verifying whether the statement was still live on our website, which it was not. This underscores the importance of careful fact-checking before making public claims, a responsibility for all organisations with a commitment to providing accurate information to the public. We hope that, for all those discussing the devastation in Gaza, the most pressing concern is the protection and defence of civilians of which, by any metric, is one of the utmost horror.

While addressing this complaint has taken significant time, our focus remains on our core mission: supporting those in need and saving lives in Gaza. We are grateful to our supporters for their continued commitment to this work.
