ActionAid is in close contact with our colleagues and partners in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, where people are facing heightened insecurity, displacement and fear
Taahra Ghazi and Hannah Bond, co-CEOs of ActionAid UK, said: "Military escalation, including the bombing of Iran, is placing millions of lives at risk across the region. Women, men and children are being killed and losing their homes as violence intensifies, and women and girls should not bear the long-term human and economic costs of decisions made by political leaders.
"We are in close contact with our colleagues and partners in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, where people are facing heightened insecurity, displacement and fear. Our colleagues are part of the communities affected, parents, neighbours and caregivers, who continue supporting their families and local organisations even as risks to their own safety grow.
"All parties to the conflict must abide by international law and immediately refrain from unlawful attacks, whether direct attacks on civilians, indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks, or the use of explosive weapons with wide area effects in densely populated areas. They must take all feasible precautions to prevent civilian harm.
"The international community – including the UK – has an obligation to uphold international law. States must urgently prioritise de-escalation and ensure they do nothing to support or enable further violence. Continued violence will endanger millions, deepen humanitarian crises, and further undermine international peace and security."
