The UK’s International Development Committee has warned that thousands of Rohingya refugees in camps in Bangladesh are under threat from coming monsoons.
Commenting on the Committee's report, Mike Noyes, head of humanitarian response at ActionAid UK, said:
“The International Development Committee is right to raise urgent concerns about the serious risks of the coming monsoon season. At ActionAid we’ve been working in Cox’s Bazar with Rohingya refugees – particularly women – who are bravely helping their community to cope, in unimaginably difficult circumstances. The rains coming could seriously damage what fragile shelters the refugees have, and lead to disease and deaths. The UK and other governments must act now to help prevent a further disaster.”
