ActionAid's co-CEO responds as the Prime Minister prepares to meet with President Trump during state visit

Ahead of the Prime Minister's meeting with President Trump, Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid, said: “It’s galling that our Prime Minister intends to roll out the red carpet tonight for a President who has done so much to endanger gender equality and human rights around the world, whether by shutting down USAID, abandoning the US’ climate commitments, or threatening democracy and peace at home and abroad .

“Instead of holding the US government to account, the UK seems intent on following in its footsteps, by cutting its own ODA budget, appeasing extreme rhetoric, and allowing the Israeli government to wage its genocidal war in Gaza with impunity. It’s time for the Prime Minister to wake up to the devastation being driven in the name of the rich and powerful – and start working towards a fairer and more stable world which protects women and girls’ rights.”
