Rael Kitelit, a mother of ten, once ran a local shop and owned a maize milling machine—until violent clashes, fuelled by climate-related resource scarcity, tore her community apart.

Why run for ActionAid?

Communities in Baringo and Makueni counties in Kenya are facing longer droughts, unpredictable rainfall and growing water shortages caused by climate change.

Rael Kitelit, a mother of ten from Baringo, lost her home and livelihood after climate-driven conflict over scarce resources forced her family to flee. With no rain for years, food is scarce and women must walk long distances to find water.

The trauma of displacement has left many women struggling to cope, while caring for children and rebuilding their lives.

Women like Rael are receiving support from ActionAid to recover and adapt to the changing climate. ActionAid provides counselling, peace-building training and brings women from different communities together to strengthen solidarity and reduce conflict.

Through women’s collectives, ActionAid is also supporting climate-resilient livelihoods, agroecological farming and access to resources, helping women protect their families and lead solutions to the climate crisis.

Help women like Rael build resilience to climate change. Your fundraising can enable more women, just like Rael, to make powerful changes within their communities.
