How your sponsorship helps
Mirium is a senior nursing officer in Blantyre, Malawi, and a member of the Nurses Association of Malawi (NAM), an ActionAid partner. She works on the frontline in a cholera unit, where overstretched health centres, staff shortages and lack of equipment make responding to outbreaks increasingly difficult.
ActionAid Malawi works with NAM to amplify the voices of nurses and health workers campaigning against public sector wage freezes and chronic underfunding, policies driven by IMF advice that have left thousands of trained nurses unemployed.
Through ActionAid’s Young Urban Women (YUW) programme, Mirium is part of a growing movement of young women challenging these systems. YUW creates space for nurses to build confidence, develop leadership skills and advocate for decent work, strong public services and women’s rights.
I am a young woman, and I am a manager. I lead men,” Mirium says proudly.
Sponsorship of ActionAid events helps fund programmes like Young Urban Women, enabling leaders like Mirium to build skills, raise their voices and campaign for stronger public services and women’s rights.
