Three steps to Go the Distance
Where your sponsorship money goes
Go the Distance to help women and girls living in some of the most vulnerable communities around the world.
In Somaliland, devastating droughts forced sisters 15-year-old Hibaq (right) and 19-year-old Nimco (left) to make the perilous journey to a camp for displaced people.
Before the drought, Hibaq and Nimco's family owned a lot of livestock and had never experienced hunger. However, when the drought became serious and their animals started dying, they had no choice but to leave their home.
Their camp is overcrowded with no access to proper toilets, no space for washing, and limited access to clean water. This leads to risk of infection, especially when Hibaq and Nimco have their periods.
As Covid-19 spreads to the world's poorest countries, displaced communities are put even more at risk. Many are unable to afford food and other supplies, and overcrowding makes self-isolation near impossible. ActionAid has been working in displacement camps to distribute hygiene kits for women and girls, containing essentials like santiary pads and soap, and provide cash transfers to vulnerable families. Your sponsorship could help support girls like Hibaq and Nimco.
