"Since we received ActionAid training we have been able to make profits and do even more."
Uzala, 43, is a farmer and general secretary of a local women’s farmers group in Ghoraghat, Bangladesh. A mother of two, she began farming over a decade ago using free seeds from ActionAid, starting with a small garden before expanding by leasing land through a group loan.
Now growing a range of fruits and vegetables, Uzala earns an income at the weekly women’s market while feeding her family, helping shield them from rising food prices. She also grows mustard for oil, plants spices, and rears animals to reduce costs.
During the pandemic, she helped move sales online, keeping incomes steady. Her group also supports women to tackle wider challenges like early marriage and domestic violence.
