Why cycle for ActionAid?

Lydia is a counsellor and SGBV Survivors Convener working with ActionAid in Nakuru County, Kenya, to challenge gender-based violence and support women to claim their rights.

Through the SGBV Survivors Network, Lydia has helped establish women’s groups across three wards. The groups meet twice a month—first to discuss challenges, violence or abuse members may be facing, and then to run a savings group that allows women to borrow money to support their families or start small businesses.

Lydia also leads community awareness sessions on gender-based violence, helping women recognise abuse and report it safely.

Most of the women involved are tea pickers, many of whom experience violence both at home and at work. Lydia works closely with a network of trained women champions who support survivors, document cases and ensure incidents are reported to the police.

By combining counselling, collective organising and economic support, Lydia is helping women break silence, build confidence and create safer communities.

By cycling and fundraising for ActionAid, you can help survivors of violence access vital services and support in seeking justice.
