ActionAid Head of Humanitarian Response Mike Noyes said: “The UK Government is making a vital contribution to tackling a string of disasters that is now affecting millions of people across Africa and the Middle East. But the need is huge and countless lives are at stake.
“In the regions of Somalia where ActionAid works, we already fear that the situation could be at least as bad as the famine six years ago which killed as many as a quarter of a million people.
“Today in parts of Africa, children are dying of hunger whilst their mothers watch in despair. The world cannot stand by and let this continue. The Government is right to be sounding the alarm."
