Farah Nazeer, Deputy Director of Advocacy at ActionAid UK responds to a report from the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) into the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative.

Responding to a report from the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) into the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative, Farah Nazeer, Deputy Director of Advocacy at ActionAid UK says,

“It is not acceptable that a campaign to prevent sexual violence in conflict has not been delivered effectively and could have in fact harmed the women and girls it sought to protect. In a world where 1 in 3 women will experience violence, it is crucial that we learn lessons from the ICAI report.

“One of these lessons is that the government must ensure aid programmes are delivered by experts at the Department for International Development which is world renowned for providing life changing aid, rather than the Foreign Office which does not always have the required expertise or experience.

"It is also vital that the voices of local women leaders are central to aid programmes to ensure real change is delivered.”
