How your donation makes a difference
6-year-old Soumya lives in Bhopal, India — one of the areas in India with the worst rates of violence against women and girls.
Here, ActionAid supports a crisis centre for survivors of violence, and runs outreach work in the community to help protect girls, educate boys and girls about equality and women’s rights, and end the cycle of violence.
Every 15 minutes, a woman or girl reports a rape in India. In most cases, the rapist is known to the survivor. A trusted family member, partner, neighbour or ‘friend’.
But ActionAid’s work is supporting survivors of violence to get the help they need to recover. And our long-term projects are helping girls like Soumya look forward to a brighter future, where she gets the education she deserves and has a safe, secure place to call home.
