Responding to the latest government announcement that unaccompanied asylum-seeking children will be resettled from Greece, Italy and France, Mike Noyes, Head of Humanitarian Response at ActionAid UK says:
“We welcome the UK Government’s change of heart on this issue and call for a speedy and transparent delivery of these vulnerable children.
“While today’s concession is a step forward, it is clear that the UK continues to fail to meet its moral obligations to those fleeing for their lives from disasters and conflict.
“These ad hoc, one-off schemes wouldn’t be necessary if European countries collectively were living up to their obligations to support the people of this crisis. We now need to see greater scope for families to be brought back together across Europe and a new deal for those fleeing.”
