ActionAid Head of Advocacy, Ms Charlie Matthews, responding to the UK government's £750m aid commitment to Afghanistan, said:
“ActionAid welcomes Priti Patel’s commitment to helping some of the world’s poorest women and children through support support for health, education and the clearing of deadly landmines. Many women and their families face violence and fear in Afghanistan and on the journey to Europe. Azita, an Afghan refugee stranded in Greece, recently told us she had “seen hell with her own eyes” and was forced to flee. It is vital the UK works to help women like Azita.
“As the UK looks to find its place in the world following the EU referendum it is essential British aid continues to help those who need it most.”
