ActionAid’s Women’s Right’s Campaigns Manager Sarah Carson, commenting ahead of Friday’s parliamentary debate on Eilidh Whiteford MP’s ‘Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence (Ratification of Convention) Bill’, said:
“Violence strips women and girls of their rights and makes them fear for their safety. It can even cost them their life. Globally one in three women will face violence during their lifetime. That is unacceptable.
“ActionAid calls on the UK Government to show global leadership, support Eilidh Whiteford MP’s Bill and commit to implementing the ground-breaking Istanbul Convention in the UK. The UK Government should seize this opportunity to build on its proud record of standing up for women and girls around the world.”
