ActionAid Head of Humanitarian Response Mike Noyes said: “The number of refugees arriving in the key transit island of Lesvos has increased in recent weeks. At the same time more people, including children, have drowned in accidents over the last week.
“Registration services on the island are in danger of becoming overwhelmed – with some mothers with children saying they are afraid to register because of the potential threat of violence.
“Refugees risk being forgotten in no-man’s land and face a situation that will only be made worse by the cold and rain of approaching winter. European governments need to provide funding and shelter before this crisis becomes even worse.”
