Summer is here, and the sun is back to make us feel great! Feeling great puts everyone in a charitable mood so we are here to give you a few ideas to get fundraising in the sun and raise money for ActionAid!
1. Al Fresco Cheese and Wine Evening
Take advantage of the great weather to host an outdoors event. You could bring back wine and cheese from your summer holidays. Or why not try our friends at Millione’s delicious lightly sparkling rosé that tastes good and does good, as all the profit goes towards building schools in Sierra Leone, West Africa. You can charge your guests a flat rate per head to attend. Check out our friend Helen McGuinn’s blog for professional tips to make you sound like a proper wine buff!
2. Sizzling Summer BBQ
Make use of an outdoor communal area at work or at home by organising a barbecue at lunch time or in the evening to round off a hard day’s work. Why not instigate summer games with pay per entry on each event. Think sports day at school — organise an egg and spoon race, provide scarves or skipping ropes for a three legged race and packets of sweets as prizes.
3. Dog walking service
Dog walking in good weather can be a lovely job. It also has the addd bonus of contributing towards training hours for all our ActionHeros gearing up for Marathons and bike rides. You can volunteer to walk friends’ and neighbours’ dogs for a small fee.
4. Summer Fete
If your local school church or village are holding a summer fete, ask them if you can have a stall. You could sell cakes, bric a brac, do a lucky dip or tombola!
5. Car Wash
Scrub those dirty bumpers clean! This tried-and-true fundraiser is a natural choice for summer since groups of just about all sizes can run a door to door car wash service. Charge extra to have tire rims polished.
6. Dress down for the Summer
Introduce a summer dress down day at work. Get your colleagues to wear Hawaiian shirts and summer hats and donate a couple of pounds to ActionAid to leave their suits at home.
7. Summer cake sale
Bake a batch of cakes and ask your colleagues to do the same, then sell them by the slice at work. Capitalise on the sunshine and sell cream teas, old style lemonade and cucumber sandwiches as a handy package so your work mates can picnic in their lunch breaks.
8. Mini Golf Tournament
Summer is a fantastic time to play golf, so why not turn it into a competition? You can use a public course in your local park. If you feel particularly inspired, why not design your own crazy golf in your back garden? Players pay an entrance fee to compete with the proceeds split between the winning golfer and your favourite charity (ActionAid. Naturally.)
9. Ladies Race Night
Dress to impress and hold a Ladies’ Race Night, watching footage of an old horse race. Raise money by making bets on the races (no cheating!) and running a pay-to-enter competition for the best hat.
10. Strawberry and cream tea party
Hold the party in your garden on a Summer’s day and charge for tickets. Use blankets and cushions to create welcoming “tables” on the grass.
“Compared to the old classroom in a small hut, I feel this new classroom is very comfortable and very much better. I will try to work hard on my study because now I have a nice place to learn.”
