Today, ActionAid launches Dear Sisters, a short film featuring Emma Thompson, Wunmi Mosaku, Jodie Whittaker, Alesha Dixon, Anjli Mohindra, Anna Maxwell Martin, Erin Doherty, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Mandip Gill and Sorcha Groundsell to support our Home Shouldn’t Hurt Christmas appeal.
In the film, the 10 women narrate a letter they have addressed to their daughters; sisters; nieces – today’s generation of girls – in which they share happy memories of Christmas; what they are looking forward to this year; and their hopes for women’s rights in 2019.
The film was devised to highlight our Christmas campaign Home Shouldn’t Hurt. For millions of women and girls, home is the most dangerous place in the world. One in three women worldwide will be beaten or sexually abused in their lifetime – most likely by someone they know.
Bafta-award winning actor and star of Luther Wunmi Mosaku explained why she is passionate about supporting our appeal. She said: “After such a big year for women’s rights I want our brothers and sisters to become stronger allies in the fight for justice, equality and the rights of all women and girls around the world.”
Anna Maxwell Martin, star of Motherland, said: “My message is not only relevant for my two daughters but for the future generation of girls who have the right to choose their own destiny.”
Please watch the video, and support our appeal to help keep women and girls safe this Christmas.
