ActionAid UK reacts to UK government meeting President Isaac Herzog.
Hannah Bond, co-CEO of ActionAid UK, said: “President Isaac Herzog represents a government that is perpetrating ongoing atrocities and war crimes in Gaza: it is shameful that the UK government is playing host to him today. The Israeli authorities must be held accountable for the grave and multiple breaches of international humanitarian law. That means implementing rulings by the ICC and ICJ, which the UK is obligated to comply with.
“The UK government should never have used recognition of a Palestinian state as a bargaining chip to threaten the Israeli government to change course. But it is beyond clear, as famine is officially confirmed and as the Israeli army prepares for a huge ground offensive in Gaza City, that it is continuing with the same devastating approach. The UK government must now follow through on its promise and officially recognise a Palestinian state without delay. It must take meaningful action and use all diplomatic pressure to bring about a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, to end the violence, release the hostages immediately and end the occupation. There is no more time to waste.”
