3rd November 2025: ActionAid Afghanistan says repeated disasters and shrinking international aid are leaving millions without food, shelter and vital support.
Srikanta Misra, ActionAid Afghanistan Country Director says, “Another devastating earthquake has struck Afghanistan overnight, compounding an already dire humanitarian crisis. ActionAid is closely monitoring the situation with partners in northern Afghanistan.
“Afghanistan faces repeated disasters - earthquakes, floods, and droughts, all worsened by the climate crisis. At the same time, the country is experiencing a severe food crisis driven by drought, economic collapse, and the withdrawal of vital funding. One in five Afghans faces acute hunger, with millions more severely malnourished.
“Yet as needs grow, international aid is shrinking. Cuts to funding are costing lives. They slow down emergency responses, isolate hard-to-reach communities, and leave families without food, shelter, or medical care. Furthermore, the impending harsh winter will further exacerbate the struggle of Afghan people to live.
“In this moment of profound need, the world cannot turn away. Every cut to international aid further weakens the resilience and recovery of millions of Afghans already living in crisis.”
